Sage ("the app," "we," "us," or "our") is developed by Felipe Miranda Policarpo de Assis, based in Brazil. Sage lets you scan a product's barcode with your phone's camera and instantly see a general score for that product, along with a personalized score based on your own goals, food preferences, and allergies.
Your privacy matters to us, and Sage is built to be privacy-first. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app uses, where it is stored, and the limited third-party services involved. By using Sage, you agree to the practices described here.
The short version
- Sage does not require you to create an account or log in.
- We do not collect or store your personal information on our servers.
- Your onboarding answers (goals, food preferences, allergies) and your scan history are stored only on your device.
- Your camera is used only to read a product's barcode. Photos are not saved or sent anywhere.
- We do not use analytics, tracking, advertising identifiers, or location data.
- We do not sell your data — and we never will.
- The only data processed off your device is: product lookups (Open Food Facts), product analysis to generate scores (OpenAI), and subscription handling (Superwall and Apple).
Information Sage uses
No account, no personal identifiers
Sage does not ask for your name, email, phone number, or any login. We do not create user profiles on our servers.
Onboarding answers (stored locally)
When you first set up Sage, we ask about your goals, food preferences, and allergies so the app can calculate a score personalized to you. This information is stored only on your device and is used only to generate your personalized scores. We do not receive, transmit, or store this information, and it is not shared with any third party, including OpenAI.
Camera (on-device only)
Sage uses your device's camera to read a product's barcode. This processing happens on your device. We do not store the photos, and images are not uploaded to us or to anyone else.
Scan history (stored locally)
Products you scan are saved in a history on your device so you can review them later. This history stays on your device and is not sent to us.
No analytics or tracking
Sage does not use analytics tools, crash-reporting services, cookies, or advertising identifiers, and it does not track you across other companies' apps or websites. Sage does not collect your location.
Third-party services
To work, Sage connects to a small number of third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy.
Open Food Facts
When you scan a barcode, the barcode number is sent to the Open Food Facts database to look up information about the product (such as ingredients and nutrition facts). Open Food Facts is a free, open, public database. No information about you is included in this request.
OpenAI
Sage uses OpenAI's technology to analyze product information and help generate product scores. When you scan a product, information about that product (such as its name and ingredients) may be sent to OpenAI to be analyzed. Only product information is processed this way — your personal information (your goals, food preferences, and allergies) is never sent to OpenAI. Product information sent through OpenAI's API is handled under OpenAI's applicable terms, and you can learn more in OpenAI's privacy policy at https://openai.com/policies.
Superwall (Nest 22, Inc.)
Because Sage requires a paid subscription, we use Superwall to display our subscription offers (the "paywall") and to manage purchases. To do this, Superwall may process limited technical information such as transaction details, device identifiers, and usage data related to purchases. Superwall does not track your purchase history for advertising, and Superwall does not sell your data. You can read how Superwall handles data in its privacy policy at https://superwall.com/privacy.
Apple / App Store
All payments for Sage Premium are processed securely by Apple through the App Store. We never receive or store your payment or billing information.
In-app purchases (Sage Premium)
Sage is free to download and includes a free trial. After the trial ends, a paid subscription is required to continue using the app. Payments are handled by Apple, and the subscription experience is powered by Superwall, as described above. We do not receive, process, or store any payment card or billing details. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple ID subscription settings.
How we use information
Because your personal information stays on your device, we use it only to make the app work for you — specifically, to generate your general and personalized product scores. Data processed by Superwall and Apple is used only to provide and manage your subscription. We do not use any information for advertising, and we do not build advertising profiles.
Data storage, retention, and security
Your onboarding answers and scan history are stored locally on your device and remain under your control. You can clear this information at any time by deleting it within the app (where available) or by uninstalling Sage, which removes the app's local data from your device. Because we do not store your personal information on our servers, there is no personal data of yours for us to lose, sell, or expose. Information processed by third-party services (Open Food Facts, OpenAI, Superwall, and Apple) is handled according to their own security practices and privacy policies.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the Brazilian General Data Protection Law (LGPD), the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA). These may include the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing.
Because Sage stores your personal information only on your own device and does not collect it, you can exercise most of these rights directly — by viewing, editing, or deleting your information within the app or by uninstalling it. For requests involving data processed by our third-party providers, or for any questions about your rights, you can contact us at the email below and we will respond as required by applicable law. We do not sell your personal information.
Children's privacy
Sage is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 in the European Economic Area). If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, please contact us.
International users
Sage is available globally. If you use Sage, the limited data processed by our third-party providers (such as Open Food Facts, OpenAI, Superwall, and Apple) may be processed in countries other than your own, in accordance with those providers' own privacy policies and safeguards.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
